Caroline Villard is a New York-based Swedish-born artist whose work transforms the mundane into the extraordinary. Educated at Beckman’s College of Art and Design and the School of Visual Arts, Villard has lived and worked in cities including Stockholm, London, Hong Kong, and New York.
Her paintings, primarily executed in oil on canvas, are semi-surreal vignettes that blend classical painting techniques with contemporary influences. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Caravaggio, Sargent, Hopper, and Hockney, as well as from popular culture and contemporary sculpture, Villard creates figurative compositions that invite viewers to find meaning in everyday moments.
Part of her practice consist of making objects, sometimes as a basis for painting or as stand alone sculptures. Through unexpected poses, compositions, material and color choices, Villard's work offers insight into the complexities of the contemporary moment, encouraging a deeper view of the world around us.
